Pawsitive Pet Solutions, LLC is all about enriching the human-animal bond while providing humane and effective training techniques based on the science of learning. We offer pets and their owners an alternative to traditional dog club training. Our focus is on the pet companion and its role in the family environment—not the show ring.

Our trainers are the only Certified Pet Dog Trainers (CPDT's) in the Dayton area certified by The Certification Council of Pet Dog Trainers. A trainer who has received the CPDT credential has met eligible requirements and has successfully demonstrated his or her knowledge by passing the certification exam.

To meet eligibility requirements, trainers must have at least 300 hours of experience of dog training within the last 5 years; a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; and one reference each from a veterinarian, a client, and a professional colleague.

Knowledge of dog behavior and application of training techniques are assessed in the following content:

  • Learning Theory
  • Instruction Skills
  • Husbandry
  • Ethology
  • Equipment

Certified Pet Dog Trainers maintain their credentials through continuing education by attending workshops, conferences and hands-on seminars for professional dog trainers. This continuing education requirement ensures that Certified Pet Dog Trainers are knowledgeable about the most current thinking, research, and techniques in the field.

Our trainers utilize a blend of classical and operant conditioning primarily using positive reinforcement. Our goal is to train humans to think like a dog by using methods that include acoustic and visual signals that have the most impact on dogs.

Our trainers are members of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and attend continuing education seminars on a variety of topics that have included canine ethology, classical and operant conditioning, aggression: including dog to dog, resource guarding (protectiveness of food or toys), impulse control, social status and dominance, and classifying threatenting and aggressive behaviors, managing dogs off leash, clicker training, pathological anxiety, instructional skills and fading & transferring cues and prompts.

Pawsitive Pet Solutions, LLC implemented and ran the R.E.A.D. -- Reading Education Assistance Dog program at Beavertown Elementary School in Kettering, Ohio from 2004 through 2008. This is a program designed by Intermountain Therapy Animals which utilizes therapy dogs to assist children with reading difficulties.
